Anirban Maitra, MBBS
Anirban Maitra, MBBS, is professor of pathology and translational molecular pathology, and scientific director of the Sheikh Ahmed Pancreatic Cancer Research Center at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Previously, he was professor of pathology and oncology at the Sol Goldman Pancreatic Cancer Research Center at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
At MD Anderson, he is co-leader of the Pancreatic Cancer Moonshot project (cancermoonshots.org), a multidisciplinary effort to improve the survival of this disease beyond incremental advances. The Moonshot effort encompasses many of the highest priority areas for progress in pancreatic cancer identified by the National Cancer Institute, including early detection and cancer interception.
Dr. Maitra has published over 300 peer reviewed publications, three dozen book chapters, and a comparable number of invited editorials, the vast majority of which are focused on pancreatic cancer research and/or clinical care. He has also trained close to 40 postdoctoral fellows and graduate students, many of whom are now in independent faculty positions throughout the United States and worldwide.
